The NFL Were Never About Unity. That’s Actually a Good Thing
My chosen topic is The clash between the NFL and President
Trump regarding kneeling protests during the National Anthem. That article I have
chosen is "The NFL Protests were never about unity. That’s actually a Good Thing" this article was found on MIC. By Zak Cheney Rice, published Sept. 26, 2017. https://mic.com/articles/184742/the-nfl-protests-were-never-about-unity-thats-actually-a-good-thing#.udxwTMpOZIn Zak’s article he
expresses how he doesn’t agree with their method of protesting “The NFL
protests are not an example of unity” but does agree with the reasons, which is
there should be no racism. He believes that they are taking steps “but the
divides they’ve laid bare mark a step toward making us a more honest and moral
country.” to make America a more honest and moral country but their protests aren’t
examples of unity in which we need.
Most of Zak’s article is informative
until the end where he states his subjective opinion, he made a very good point
when he said “ This is not unity. But it does accurately reflect the divisions
in the U.S. debate around racism” in other words if they are picking a side at
least they are doing something, even if the way they show it isn’t right. Another
good point he made is when he said, “The battle for racial equality is only a
battle because there are opposing sides.” He is basically saying it would be
great If everyone could agree on one thing but that doesn’t necessarily mean
that what they’re agreeing on is right.
In my opinion he is for protesting
but don’t do it for show. It doesn’t do anyone any good if nothing gets done. When
he says picking sides is good he is saying you are serious about it. Its just
like the old saying shi* or get off the pot! There are many ways to protest,
and I agree with their freedom to protest but I feel that there is a right and
wrong way to do so. Yes we have issues within the United States but we still
have people that have lost their lives for OUR freedom. Do they realize that
who they are disrespecting ( soldiers) are the ones that died for them to be
able to protest ? since it all started with cops killing African Americans,
there are troops that have fought and lost their lives for us. Their black and
by not standing for the national anthem aren’t they disrespecting their own
race. Its seems pretty contractible to me. .This has gotten me thinking, if all of these NFL players are protesting inequality and injustices wouldn't it be more productive to take the money they are making and put it back in the community to help the oppressed? They could also donate to candidate campaign that runs for political office. or better yet they could take their money and start a non profit organization to help people pay for lawyers when they feel like they were treated unfairly. Looks to me like they're biting the hand that feeds them. Again that is MY opinion.
I agree with you about that everyone should have equal rights and to do better as a country.
ReplyDeleteI agree that there is a productive way of protesting and making a stance for a more significant matter, but leave politics to the politicians, please.
