Exam #1

Exam #1 wasn’t really what I expected. Besides the vocabulary it was complex and I had to read the instructions more than once to acquire the least bit of understanding on a few questions. To prepare for this exam I made myself a vocabulary list so at any time I could pull it out and go over the vocabulary that we were given. On top of the notes taken from class I made my own notes defining persuasive and informative language, putting information in my own words always helps me to remember. Honestly, next time I will study my materials more thoroughly to prepare for the exam, I don’t feel like I studied the most I could. The most difficult section for me was defining parts of speech for figurative language and its functions. The easiest section on the test to me was the vocabulary, I didn’t expect the layout to be so straight forward, I thought we would have more complex directions like every other part of the exam. If I was to give advice to someone younger taking their first short answer quiz/ essay I would tell them to make sure they know their information so they can effectively relay their response on paper that makes sense. What do I do to relax before a test? I sleep, it seems like I can never get enough sleep so when I’m not doing homework or eating, im sleeping. What I do after taking a test is a little different and I would be surprised if I was the only one to do this. I go back to my notes and see what I know I got wrong on the test so I’m not surprised when I get the test back. When I know I’ve gotten something wrong it bothers me until I correct myself. I’m glad reflecting on our first exam is our prompt. Now I know what to expect and what to be prepared for. Every classes exam is different so I never know what the test will be like. I look forward to furthering my knowledge in this class and doing better on future exams and assignments.

  1. Good on you for going back over your notes AFTER the test. You have no idea how valuable this practice is. Your brain is all hyped up with emotion and curiosity, which means it's actually more receptive to those ideas than it may have been beforehand. Cheers for a great tip to your classmates.

  2. I never thought of going back through my notes after the test, I'm going to have to start doing that.
